3 〔ゆとり・余裕〕

●ハンドルの遊び the play of a steering wheel.

●さすが名人だけあって彼の芸には遊びがある. As you'd expect from a real master, there's some freedom [flexibility] in his performance.

・彼女の弾くピアノはただ楽譜どおりで遊びがない. In her piano playing she just follows the score exactly, and there's nothing extra of herself in it.

・私は(車の)ハンドルに余分の遊びが生じていないかどうかを確かめた. I checked to see whether (or not) the steering wheel was free of excess play. | I checked to see whether (or not) the steering wheel had too much play.

・あの操縦桿は遊びが多すぎる. That control stick has too much play in it.
